Job Description:
Location: Northeast Kingdom, Vermont
Position Type: Part-time, seasonal (mid May- mid October) with the opportunity to expand with childcare into the off-season
Reports to: Lizzie (Farm Owner)
Root to Rise Farm is seeking a grounded, warm, dynamic, empathetic, creative, and capable individual to serve in Root to Rise Farm’s Roots to Shoots Support role. This role is designed to work closely with Lizzie in stewarding the people-facing heart of the farm. It includes supporting Lizzie with:
The Roots: her small-scale heirloom vegetable and flower production, basic farm stand operations, some basic support with her sourdough microbakery/ Bread CSA/ community food donations
The Shoots: weekly, clearly-defined childcare support and school transportation for our two kind-hearted, spunky daughters
This position is ideal for someone who values meaningful work, clear communication, and shared responsibility. This individual loves children, can be flexible with the ebbs and flows of farmwork and kids (no two days are ever exactly the same), and who feels at home in a family-centered, values-driven farm environment. Responsibilities
Farm Production & Sales
Support and work alongside Lizzie with heirloom vegetable and flower production from seed starting through harvest and post-harvest handling
Support basic tasks for Lizzie’s Sourdough Microbakery/ CSA/ Community Food Deliveries (assembling packaging or dropping off our weekly food contributions to the local food banks we work with, for example)
Simple farm stand operations, including opening/ closing on Saturdays, helping with inventory, and curating a uniquely Northern Vermont customer experience
Assist with seasonal planning, presentation, and light marketing of farm products
Family & Child Support
Provide clearly-defined and pre-scheduled childcare support for two school-aged children
Drive children from school to home/after-school activities/ camps as needed (approximately a 45-minute drive). Potential for some planned, agreed-upon evening hours
Create a calm, physically and emotionally safe, inclusive, engaging, playful, and respectful environment for children
Communicate clearly, respectfully, and honestly with Lizzie around scheduling, needs, and boundaries
Collaboration & Growth
Work closely with and learn alongside Lizzie on seasonal planning, workflow improvements, and creative direction
Show up with ownership, attention to detail, care, and follow-through, especially during busy or challenging seasons
Qualifications
Experience with vegetable production, flowers, CSA systems, and/or food production isn’t necessary, but a plus
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to balance farm responsibilities with well-planned and defined family support
Physical ability to perform farm work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Clean driving record, valid driver’s license, and reliable vehicle
A genuine enjoyment of and respect for children
Alignment with Root to Rise Farm’s core values
